Build A Website In Under An Hour

Today we’re going to build a website in less than an hour. In fact, when you’ve done this a few times, you can build a website out in closer to twenty minutes!

I’m going to be showing you how to setup your website in cPanel, as this is the most common interface.

However, it’s possible you may have some form of cloud hosting that is using a different interface. That’s fine, contact your hosting to get the initial site setup done, then use the WordPress auto install in the same way as I outline below.

Everything else will be exactly the same!

Start by logging into your cPanel (or cloud hosting) and find the App Installers.

Click on the WordPress icon to install WordPress automatically on your website.

Once you click this button, it will either install straight away or you may have to click another install button like this:

After this you will be shown a number of options, leave them all as default but make a note of the username and password to login, and then install WordPress.

That’s it, wait for the confirmation message, and you’ve successfully just installed WordPress on your website.

I told you it was simple!

  • HELP… Where do you start building an internet business?

HELP… Where do you start building an internet business?

Late last night I got a WhatsApp message from my Holly’s cousin.

    She’s re-training and becoming a bridal make-up artist.

    Sounds great.

But it means she’s got to find her own work.

Gone are the days when you used to pop into shops with a card, although that probably would still be a very good idea in this business, but now the first thing anybody thinks about is what they can do online.

And that makes me smile. I remember not that long ago, when my friends thought I was insane to want to do my own thing online.

When you think of bridal make-up you don’t think of an online business. However, the majority of the business is online, it’s the very end part, the make-up, which is likely to be the only part not done online.

Kinda what I was talking about yesterday 😉 which you can read here if you missed it.

    Anyhoo…

(yes I put another anyhoo in, but I’ve not done it for a while so I don’t feel bad!)

Her message went along the lines of.. “I’m starting my own business. I need to setup online. I need Instagram, Facebook Page, a website, domain (apparently?), found a website called Wix which will host my website for free.

Should I get gmail first? I guess I need a business email?

Is it better to setup socials first or website, guess I should do both at same time?

Not sure about domain name, do I need to choose that before doing anything else?

Branding is going to be important too. Maybe that should come first?

I don’t really have a clue about this stuff but was planning on getting everything up and running next week!

    Wowzas.

First of all, we’re going to need to some back tracking. But she’s done the best thing she could have done.

She’s realised she doesn’t know what she’s doing online. She’s realised she’s got to learn, and she’s come and asked someone who can help.

That’s the best way to do things. You should use the people with experience to speed up the learning curve.

I’ve been doing this for over a decade. I’ve made a LOT of cock ups. And some of them have been very costly.

Why the hell would you want to make the same mistakes as me when I can just tell you how to avoid them!

For me this was a fascinating message, because it gave me an insight into what goes on in your mind when you don’t know where to begin.

And what goes on is… absolute chaos, mingled with excitement.

Maybe this is something you can relate too?

I’m going to tackle how the hell you get started online in this week’s newsletters.

It doesn’t matter if you’re building a completely online business, or like Holly’s cousin, you just need the online element to get leads for your business.

Either way, the process at the beginning is pretty much the same!

First of all, don’t just jump in.

Yes, I know I’m a big advocate of not procrastinating. Which you shouldn’t do either, but you’ve got to have some kind of plan in place before you start.

Here’s the way you should do it…

  • The Story Of A Corrupt Pirate

The Story Of A Corrupt Pirate

The Night Pirates is a favourite book in the Wilding household at the moment.

Admittedly both Holly and I enjoy it, but it’s a firm favourite with Max, and I’m sure it will be with Lyra when she’s old enough to enjoy it.

In the story the girl pirates seem to care about the little boy they take with them on their adventures. Whereas the mean male pirates only care about themselves.

It doesn’t specifically state that the girls are good and the boys are bad, but that’s the feeling given across.

But if you think about it, any pirate is corrupt!

It’s kinda part of the job description.

    Wikipedia defines a pirate as:

Piracy is an act of robbery or criminal violence by ship or boat-borne attackers upon another ship or a coastal area, typically with the goal of stealing cargo and other valuable items or properties. Those who engage in acts of piracy are called pirates.

So they’re really not nice people.

And they’re the kind of people who, generally speaking, are going to think about one thing…

    …themselves.

They come first, second and third.

Everything they do is in the interest of self-gain.

Which got me thinking about internet marketing.

Most people think there are two types of internet marketers, you’ve got:

    1) Those who market other companies products

    2) Those who market lessons on how to make money online

Generally the second group are thought to be slightly shady, because there’s more spam and scammy style marketing done by this group.

MMO (Make Money Online) has had a slightly grey name for a while.

    But there’s also a third group…

    3) These are the people who start digital businesses

Of course, the second group have a digital business as well, but it’s a very different thing marketing to people in order to show them how you got them to spend money with you.

That’s a certain type of marketing.

And, in my experience, it’s different to marketing products, services and other types of businesses.

There are actually hundreds of ways to make money, and most people forget to look at all the options and then make a decision based on what is going to suit them best.

The decision is usually made because either they’ve not realised the wealth of different types of opportunities online, or they’ve been taken in by marketing.

So, here are some of the businesses that you can run online, which don’t include teaching people how to make money online.

    1. Ebooks guiding readers how to achieve something
    2. Access to a membership site
    3. Real world training
    4. Virtual business support
    5. Real world product ecommerce store
    6. Fulfillment by Amazon products
    7. Skills such as design, coding, video editing etc.
    8. Paid for email newsletters
    9. Lead generation
    10. Books and novels on Kindle
    11. Website flipping
    12. Affiliate promotions, in niches other than MMO
    13. Adsense and advertising revenue content sites
    14. Software As A Service
    15. Staffing business, providing outsourced staff to businesses
    16. App development
    17. Dropshipping
    18. Ebay business

Pretty much anything can be done online these days. That means that the key to choosing the right business model for you is not about following what someone has told you.

You’ve got to be a pirate.

    You’ve got to be selfish.

You’ve got to start by considering yourself.

Probably the most important question to ask, the one very few people do is…

Do I want to work WITH other people or on my own

It doesn’t matter what way you slice it, most digital businesses start with you sitting in a room on your own.

For me, I’ve done it for so long that I actually prefer to work on my own because I get way more done. Anything I do with others gets done after I’ve finished doing what I want to do on my own.

But most people like to worth with others, and if you do, then you may want to consider a digital business which involves some face-to-face time with your customers.

This may be providing services to local businesses, training, consulting or making real world products.

On the other hand if you want to do your work at unsociable hours, or would rather not see anybody, then you may want to opt for affiliate marketing, Adsense sites or website flipping.

There are many ways to build a business online with very little communication between yourself and the buyer.

Heck, if you want no communication at all affiliate marketing means no support, no products.

But the flip side is you have to be a machine. You have to be patient, and you have to make large amounts of campaigns to get one that works. Then rinse and repeat.

It requires a different type of personality!

Don’t rush into choosing what you’re going to do online.

Take some time to consider your strengths and weaknesses. Take time to consider the way that you work the best. Consider how you want to work and how long you want to spend working.

I’m not suggesting that you take weeks off trying to work out the best way to proceed.

    That’s not consideration, that’s delaying.

Spend twenty four hours considering all the possibilities, then jump in feet first and get started.

    See you tomorrow,

    Michael

  • 3 Bottles Too Many

    3 Bottles Too Many

Yesterday I went down to London to have a few drinks for a friends birthday.

Planning to get their mid-afternoon, but having left in plenty of time, my train got into Kings Cross just before 2pm.

So… I had plenty of time to meet another school friend for a quick drink and bite to eat before the birthday party.

I headed to Oxford Circus, and met in a nice bar just on the edge of Mayfair.

A bottle of wine and some nice food went down a treat.

Three hours later, and three bottles of wine down, I am stumbling out of the bar to head to the birthday party!

Needless to say… I’ve felt better than I do right now.

Which may mean there’s the odd spelling mistake in here, but I’ll do my best to make sure there isn’t.

Have you heard about the Instagram influencer @arii?

She has 2.6 million followers on Instagram, but yet failed to sell 36 t-shirts from her new product line to enable production.

There’s been a lot of speculation around what’s been going on.

    Has the influencer bubble burst?

  • The Temptress In The Black Hat

The Temptress In The Black Hat

There’s water running down the kitchen wall.

FFS was the first thought that came into my mind.

I ventured outside into the stormy weather, got a ladder from the shed, and climbed up the side of the building.

The gutter was overflowing, treaming down the brick, wall and had been for as long as the rain had been pouring, which is now seven days.

Working my way along I found a piece of cement had fallen out from under the roof tiles and was blocking the downpipe.

Removing it was like releasing the flood gates. You could hear the water pouring down like a waterfall.

    Excellent.

The question of the issue that there’s cement falling out from under the roof tiles quietly ignored for the time being.

That night Max woke me up, as usual, while it was still dark.

Having persuaded him that it was not a good idea to be racing cars in the middle of the night, I made my way down the hall back to our bedroom.

    Wait… what’s that… the floorboards are wet.

    You are f***ing kidding me!

In the morning I make my way to the kitchen, the room beneath the sodden floorboards, and yes… the ceiling is wet.

    Agggghhhhh.

My first thoughts were a pipe has burst.

Luckily, after a coffee with Alan, a seriously knowledgeable chap, it looks like it’s the pointing which is rotten and, being an old house, the driving rain is going straight through the pointing finding the pipe work between the floorboards, and running down it.

    Great.

At least it’s not a leaking pipe.

Did I mention I also tried fixing a toilet and ended up with water gushing out. It was only by brute force I managed to fix it without calling out an emergency plumber.

It seems that at the moment I’m not having much luck with water!

Today, rather than worrying about water flooding down the kitchen walls or trying to fix toilets, I’m going to do what I’m best at, talk about marketing.

Specifically white and black hat marketing, and which you should be using.

    What’s the difference?

Simply put, white hat is good and black hat is bad.

Which means if you use white hat then nobodys going to shut you down or come after you for spamming, and if you use black hat they might.

So why would you use black hat?

The theory is that black hat marketing will get you the results you want, more money, faster. It uses loopholes and bad practice to generate massive volume quickly.

At least, that used to be the case.

The thang is… nowadays it’s not quite the same.

Back in the day data protection was non-existent. You could, within reason, do pretty much anything in marketing and have no repurcussions.

Heck, you could say anything without anybody caring.

    Not so now.

Although if you’re marketing in the U.S. it still has the loosest laws around data protection.

Which means that the black hat shortcut isn’t quite a shortcut anymore, because you have to put so much effort into being untraceable.

Let’s take list purchasing. Here’s how it used to be done…
