Social media’s becoming nuts. Just take a look at this list of some of the popular ones…

    Facebook
    Twitter
    LinkedIn
    Google+
    YouTube
    Pinterest
    Instagram
    Tumblr
    Flickr
    Reddit
    Vine
    Periscope
    BizSugar
    SnapChat

And there’s a bunch more out there!

As internet marketers, or folk who want to make some extra cash online ;), we’re told that we should be engaging on as many social media platforms as possible.

If you actually tried to do this, you’d dig yourself an early grave.

To be serious on a social media platform, you need to be publishing multiple times a day. Some need more, some need less, but they all need more than one a day.

Then you need to interact with everybody on the channel to build some momentum. Not to forget, when you begin, you’re going to have to spend extra time building a following!

Oh yeah… and you should, ideally, have different content on each channel.

    I mean WTF?!

Honestly, it’s not possible. Just the fourteen social media channels above would require a full time team of three or four to keep active.

So let’s go against that curve, which is how I like to generally do things, and say that you shouldn’t be trying to be on all platforms.

    Instead do this…

    1) Look at your market and their demographic. Discover which social media channel they prefer, and where the majority hang out and interact.

    2) Focus on that ONE channel!

Seriously, this is going to make your life so much easier.

By doing this you’re going to focus on building a following on one single social media channel, and focus is the key to being successful in this game.

By focusing on one social media channel, you’ll be able to build great content for it, spend time building your following and getting to know your followers.

This in turn will breed loyalty in your followers.

Which is exactly what you want.

Once you’ve got a big fanbase who are interacting with you, then’s the time to start working on another channel, if you want to.

Of course, you may decide that you don’t actually need another channel, you’re fine just growing one.

This approach is simple, and works. It’s how my Twitter account got to 11,600 followers and growing.

P.S. In next month’s Business Ignition I’m going to be sharing the new tool I’m using to get hundreds of likes on Instagram for every post.

  • How to send 120,000 for twelve bucks

How to send 120,000 for twelve bucks

I promised yesterday that I’d share with you how to send emails for a fraction of the price of an autoresponder company.

What you need to do is:

    1) Download mailing software
    2) Install it on one of your websites
    3) Connect it to an SMTP server

Three simple steps, and if you’ve got a decent hosting company they may even do the installation part for you!

The email software you want to use is called MailWizz, and you can get it from here: https://www.mailwizz.com/

That’s not an affiliate link, it’s direct to the sales page for the software.

At $54, it doesn’t come much cheaper than this.

Once you’ve installed MailWizz you can simply connect it to any SMTP server (this is what sends the email out to everyone).

The list of servers you can connect to is extensive, and includes:

    Amazon SES
    Mandrill
    Mailgun
    Sendgrid
    Dyn Web
    MailerQ
    MailJet
    Elastic Email
    Spark Post

There are a bunch of others and, of course, your own SMTP server which your hosting can setup for you.

While running your own SMTP server is cheapest, it’s also the most complicated, so I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re prepared to get your hands dirty!

I’d choose one of the third party servers and connect to them instead.

To give you an idea of the difference in pricing, let’s assume a list of 10,000 emails that you send to three times per week.

That equates to 120,000 emails per month.

This would cost you $69 per month in Aweber (which is a good benchmark for autoresponders), although it’s worth bearing in mind that if you have 10,001 subscribers the price would jump to $149.

However, for that price you can send as many emails to those leads as you like per month, you could send twenty emails each day if you wanted to.

In contrast, let’s look at Amazon SES, for a comparison price, who charge $0.10 per 1000 emails sent. We’ve estimated that we’ll send 120,000 emails per month which would be a whopping total of $12 per month!

That’s $57 cheaper than Aweber per month.

In fact, to reach the same monthly cost of Aweber you would need to send 690,000 emails a month or 16 emails per week.

The bottom line is… it’s waaaaaay cheaper.

But let’s forget about money for a moment, because here’s the big kicker, and the reason I think everyone should run their own mailing software…

If you have your own mailing software installed on your website, then you are in complete control of all the leads.

    And that’s very important.

If you use Aweber, GetResponse, MailChimp or any other provider, they can shut your account down instantly and you can’t access your leads.

This is such an issue that people have developed programs specifically to back up your mailing lists from these providers.

If you use your own software, then if Amazon (or any other) SMTP server shuts you down, you don’t lose any of your leads (although you may want to consider why you got shut down), all you need to do is get another SMTP server running and you can start emailing again.

Since we’re in the email marketing business, why the heck would you want someone else to have control over your most valuable asset?!

    The benefits are:

    * Cheaper
    * Complete ownership of email lists

    The negatives are:

    * You have to set it up once

    If you ask me, it’s a no-brainer.

    Michael

P.S. If you’re a high volume emailer (spending $200+ per month on emailing) and would like to be connected with someone who can get you an 80% or higher inbox rate, then let me know.

P.P.S. You know what to do with those adverts 😉

  • Check out my new look (it’s pretty darn sexy!)

Check out my new look (it’s pretty darn sexy!)

The first thing that you’ll notice today, is that the format of my emails has changed radically.

    I hope you like it!

You may have noticed that I very rarely promote anything in these emails, except occasionally my Business Ignition course.

I write these emails because I enjoy writing them and, I hope, because you enjoy reading them.

It’s not my primary business, nor is teaching others how to make money online. I like helping you to succeed, and I enjoy sharing what I’ve learned over a decade of working online and running online businesses.

As the readership of this newsletter has grown, so have the costs of running it.

Which means I need to find new ways to generate revenue in order to keep it running.

I could make more products about internet marketing. But, as far as I’m concerned, Business Ignition contains a wealth of knowledge not available elsewhere.

So instead… I’ve decided to start showing adverts inside my emails and asking you if you would kindly click on them every time I send an email.

You see, I’ll get paid for clicks on the adverts in my emails. You don’t need to purchase anything, unless you want it of course, you just need to click on each ad once (or multiple times if you’re felling generous!) and this revenue will go back into the cost of hosting this newsletter.

I hope you like the new layout of this email, and thank you for your support, it’s an honour to have you as a reader.

    Michael

P.S. I’ve just taken 30% ownership in a business that’s so offline it’s in the stone age. It’s about to get an awaken to the 21st Century, it’s going to be a lot of work, but damn it’s exciting and I’m going to share with you how I do it.

P.P.S. Don’t forget to click on those ads 😉

  • Event Junky

    Event Junky

Do you like going to seminars?

Running seminars is big business these days, and you get seminar junkies who go to every single one that they hear about.

    But they’re damn expensive.

Take Todd Brown’s recent MFA live event…

    Tickets were $997!

Sell a thousand tickets and you’ve just made a million dollars in sales, before you begin pitching anything from the stage.

Which is why in recent years the quanitty of seminars being hosted is getting larger and larger.

The question is… are they worth it?

IMHO there are two reasions to go to a seminar:

    1) Content
    2) Networking

If you’re going for networking then you’ve got to be hugely pro-active and know exactly why you want to network, and what you’re going to get out of it.

There’s no point in networking without having something to offer the people you’re networking with.

If you’re going for content, then spending nearly a thousand bucks on a ticket, plus flights and hotel accomodation is a lot of money.

At least, I think it’s a lot of money, but then again I have been known to be kinda tight.

Like any product or service, some of the seminars have great content and some of them don’t.

Todd Brown’s MFA had some pretty damn good content, but you’d expect that with speakers like…

    Clayton Makepeace
    Brian Kurtz
    Rich Schefren
    Molly Pittman
    Mike Filsaime
    Ryan Levesque
    Jon Benson
    Dave Dee

    And of course… Todd Brown.

    That’s some serious line-up!

But the fee is out of reach for a lot of folk, which is why I would recommend you go and buy the notes from someone who went.

    Like these ones.

This is an awesome way to get all the content, for a fraction of the cost.

But there’s actually a better reason to get it, other than it costing your thirty bucks instead of a thousand, and that is…

By definition notes only take into account the most important actionable content.

When you deliver a speech you know you’ve got an hour, or longer, on stage. So you build your speech to include anecdotes, stories and other things to keep your audience interested and entertained.

For us folk who just want the nuts and bolts, you can assume that in every hour long speech, there’s about fifteen minutes worth of truly actionable content.

By getting notes from the event instead of going, you get only the most actionable elements from each speaker. All the fluff is removed.

And that’s the single best way to move your business forward.

You don’t want to get bogged down with the fluff, there’s waaaay to much of that anyway.

So you can save a shite load of cash, and only get the parts that are important.

Here’s where to get notes from Todd Brown’s 2017 MFA.

    Inside these notes you’ll get:
The “24-Hour Traffic Trigger” – revealed by Todd Brown – that average marketers in your niche will NEVER be able to afford… but you can put to work (at a profit!) and see real results from within just 24 hours!
Clayton Makepeace’s almost-unbelievably easy and effective way to create instant trust in your prospects… even if you have no track record… a distinct lack of authority… and zero credibility in your market!

How Brian Kurtz turns ordinary email leads into ravenous devourers of content who will drop everything the moment they see his name in their inbox… and the fastest and most effective way to do the same for your marketing messages!

UNKNOWN? Use Rich Schefren’s trick to become an instant authority expert within 25 seconds from the start of any marketing campaign!

Molly Pittman has 4 simple numbers you need to know so you never again have to wonder about when you need to “trim the fat” from your campaigns and when you need to scale!

Mike Filsaime’s discovery of the “Ultimate Webinar” close even the greenest and most timid presenters are using to turn webinars into hefty paydays!

The one simple question Ryan Levesque asks new customers in the very first email to make them fall head-over-heels in love with him and do his bidding!

Cut your writing time by up to 75% with tested and proven Jon Benson’s “Email Themes”!

Dave Dee tells you how 5 hours of work can results in a MONSTER DAY of sales… as often as you choose… at least 15 times a year!

I mean damn, any more than that and you wouldn’t have time to implement it.

Get all these things right here for just 3% of what people paid to actually attend the event!

  • Re-grow your finger in just 10 days!

Re-grow your finger in just 10 days!

Did that subject line peak your curiosity?

    That’s because it’s called a ‘pattern interrupt’.

It’s a technique which you can use to break the attention of your online visitors.

BTW, that’s a true story about the finger, Google it 😉

    And it’s pretty damn effective.

You can read more about it here.

The use of ‘pattern interrupt’ has been going on in direct marketing since the 1960’s when it was first used by Volkswagen.

They simply used a photo of their Beetle with the headline… LEMON

    WTF?!

And that’s exactly why this method works so well.

It causes your reader to do a double-take. At first glance they read something and dismiss it, it’s what we all do naturally.

But then your brain starts wondering what the hell it was you just read, that couldn’t be right.

So… you go back and take another look, but this time you read it properly.

Which means… you’re giving the adver the amount of time it needs to actually do it’s job.

Huge corporations use this, internet marketers like Frank Kern use this, the best direct response marketers in the world use this.

And if you’re not using it, then you’re leaving money on the table from your leads.

Discover here EXACTLY how to use ‘pattern interrupts’ to…

    * Get more optins
    * More banner clicks = more money
    * More engaged blog readers, social shares and comments
    * More affiliate commissions
    * Higher sales page conversions
    * People staying longer on your videos and webinars

Everything you need to know is revealed on this web page.
