  • Would you like a pot of gold?

Would you like a pot of gold?

This morning I received this email from Heikki…

Thanks, Michael, your advice is worth gold!”

    Hells yes it is!

Follow what I say, and you’ll grow your mailing list faster, build your brand quicker, and increase your earnings rapidly.

It doesn’t matter whether you sell ebooks, software, physical products, or even yourself.

And by yourself, I mean consulting, you naughty naughty person you 😉

The truth is, marketing isn’t rocket science. It isn’t complicated.

There are folks out there who’d like you to think it’s rocket science, they’d like you to think it’s complicated, because then they can charge you tens of thousands of dollars for their products.

But it doesn’t have to be.

The main reason folk don’t get it working for them, is they never implement anything. Heck, if you don’t implement anything, then nothing is going to be effective.

If you’re struggling to take action, then I recommend that you implement one thing per day, every day.

Each evening, just before you head of to your bed with the fluffy pillows, write down the one thing you’re going to do tomorrow on a post-it note, and stick it to your computer.

Don’t make this something that’s impossible to do in a day, like… build a business.

Make it something that’s small, digestible and can be done in thirty to sixty minutes. Something like…

Get an autoresponder and add one welcome email to a new mailing list.

Do that, then stop for the day.

This makes sure that you take action every day, but never get overwhelmed. You’ll be amazed at how quickly you move forward doing just one thing each day.

And if you want to know the things I do each day, they’re all written down here inside the book that the real players use.

  • The five-year old who taught me about life

The five-year old who taught me about life

I learned a big lesson from a little girl this week. She came to visit us with her dad, who’s one of my best friends, and we were in a soft-play area when she brought me some of those ball pit balls and said…

    Can you juggle

Well, here’s the thing… I used to be able to juggle.

Like properly juggle. I loved circus skills when I was a kid, and at one point, I could juggle four clubs.

    So obviously I said…

Juggle? You bet, I’m a professional!

Now I don’t know if you’ve ever seen those ball pit balls, but they’re pretty big. In fact they’re so damn big I could barely fit two of them in my hands.

As I stood up, the entire area we were sitting in went quiet.

    Bollocks.

Everybody’s watching, I better not screw this up.

Zoe was looking at me with a mixture of excitement and hesitance, as if she didn’t really believe I could do it.

Which was kinda how I was feeling at the time as well.

I took a deep breath, focused, pretended I was 14 years old again (when I was really good at this stuff) and threw the balls in the air.

Holy crap, I could still juggle.

I looked at Zoe and saw her face staring in surprise, and pleasure, and the fact that I could actually juggle, and that made me smile. In fact, it made me really happy to have given her such a moment of joy.

Finishing with a simple trick, I got a round of applause, and went back to my seat with a very excited little girl.

    It had made her day.

And what she taught me is…

Everything you should do in life should be focused on giving someone joy.

It doesn’t matter whether it’s your friends 5 year old daughter, the readers of your newsletter, or your customers.

Your aim should be to make people happy. Give people joy, and if you give people joy, you’ll find that they give you what you want.

Not only that, but you get what you want and you get the most incredible feeling of fulfilment with it.

Which is why I love to hear from you. I love the emails I get every day in response to this newsletter. If you’ve not emailed me before, then hit the Reply button now and say hello. You don’t have to have a question, or a reason, just introduce yourself 🙂

  • The spiky dangers of internet marketing gooroos

The spiky dangers of internet marketing gooroos

For the first time in my life, I saw a hedgehog yesterday,

Now this may not sound exciting for some people but, for me, it absolutely made my weekend.

And I’m not talking about a hedgehog that’s been flattened on the side of the road, I mean a walking, talking hedgehog.

Okay, maybe he (or she) wasn’t talking so much. But they were definitely walking.

It came about because I hadn’t seen BeeBee, my dog, for a while, so I popped out into the garden to see what she was up to. And…

    …she was sniffing a hedgehog.

Now I know they have fleas and thangs, but damn they’re also pretty cute. This one was snuffling around in the gravel pathway of our garden, quite at peace with the world.

I sat down to watch it go about it’s bizniss for a little while, and something struck me. They look cute,  but damn, if one of those spikes went into your hand it’d be painful.

Which is kinda how I see a lot of gooroos.

    They look cute.

Their products look cute, all shiny and pretty, waiting to be unwrapped like a big box under a Christmas tree.

But often, when you get inside, they’re spikey and full of content that nobody’s ever going to take action on.

    Why?

Because when there’s 60 hours of videos, it’ll take you a week, full time, just to go through it.

And the truth is… most of it’s filler. You can put the actual content you need to take action on, from the majority of those products, into a couple of pages.

Which means that most people don’t even get to the stuff they need to do.

If you wanna make some mullah online, then the key is productivity.

Kinda like what Tom Beal is sharing in these videos.

  • Big Sky Adventure

    Big Sky Adventure

This weekend, one of my best friends, Jamie, came up to visit me with Zoe, his five-year old daughter.

We’d originally planned to take them to the Exotic Pet Refuge, which if you’ve been reading my emails for a while, you’ll know all about.

But… it was pissing it down with rain, and they reckoned all the animals would be sheltering inside, as far away as possible from view.

They literally told me on the phone…

You can come, but you probably won’t see anything”.

Okay. That’s not gonna work very well for a five-year old.

So, Holly and I had to find something else to do. Which is when we found…

    Big Sky Adventure

A soft-play area for kids. This was my first time in a soft-play area, and f**k me it’s awesome!

It’s like a huge playground made of soft mats and games. I absolutely loved it.

Oh yeah, Zoe enjoyed it as well.

Luckily for me, Jamie wanted someone to keep an eye on her to make sure she was alright, which meant I had an excuse to go through the entire area following her.

Honestly, I think they should open it in the evening for adults.

And then it should be compulsory for everyone to go.

As we get older, we forget the enjoyment we can get from simple things, like crawling through tunnels and swinging on ropes.

When you’re doing it, you aren’t thinking of anything else, and that means… your brain is relaxing.

If you’re brain is relaxing, then when you want to power it up to do things, like run an online bizniss, it’s super-charged and ready to go.

But if you’re brain is never switching off, if you find it difficult to sleep because you’re constantly thinking, then it hasn’t got time to rest. You must find a way to relax your brain, and the soft-play area, I reckon, would be one of the greatest ways to do that.

Heck, I thought this so much, I even went and found out how much it would cost me to start my own!

Anyhoo… if you don’t have a soft play area near you, or a small person that you can take to it, think of a way that will enable you to relax. A way to switch off your brain.

Begin switching off your brain a few times a week, and you’ll see your productivity shoot through the roof.

    Over and out,

  • To discount or not to discount, that is the question

To discount or not to discount, that is the question

Have you ever offered discounts for your products?

You probably have, most people do. But they do it all wrong. They offer a discount because they’re not selling enough, or they want a quick injection of cash and are happy to get it for less.

But they’re not thinking about the overall effect that’s going to have on their business.

    The thang is…

…while it’s easier to sell something with a discount, it can also cause a shift in how people view your business.

For example, in the UK we have an Italian restaurant chain called Pizza Express, and when they started to expand, they began offering deals.

Thing is, nobody goes there unless they have a discount. I mean why would you pay the full price when you can ALWAYS get a discount.

Heck, when we ate there the other day, even the waiter asked us if we had a coupon to use.

    I mean WTF?!

People would eat there anyway, at the full price, but they’ve used discounts so extensively in their marketing, that nobody goes without at least 20% off.

Hell, they’re still making a lot of money, so fair enough.

But it changes peoples perspective of your business.

In the early days of Pizza Express, it was considered a decent place to eat. Now it’s consider a cheap place that does decent food.

That’s a big psychological shift in the mindset of your customers.

As a customer, if you know that a company offers regular discounts on their products, do you just go and buy them or wait for the next discount?

    You wait of course.

Yes… there’ll always be the odd person who wants the product now and won’t wait, but a lot of people will hold off until they can get it cheaper. They’re not prepared to pay the higher price when they know all they need to do to get it for less, is be patient.

Remember, patience doesn’t cost your customers anything!

If you never discount your products, it may take you longer to sell them, but your customers will have a different opinion of them.

They’ll assume that you don’t need to give discounts on them. They won’t base their purchase decision on whether they have a coupon or not.

They’ll buy the product where they believe there’s enough value in it for them.

Now this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t offer discounts. I do in a lot of my businesses.

    What I’m saying is…

You shouldn’t offer a discount just because you’re desperate for a sale. You should think through the impact it will have long-term on your overall business model.
